Checklist for your website

There are a list of checklist for your website that should be done to make sure that you followed the SEO rules. Other than the important tags like Title, Meta, Content, image Alt etc. you should be aware of the modifications in search technologies:

Do not put frames, avoid using Query strings - You need to keep your code clean. Unnecessary use of tags can result in creating extra burden on your website. Frames are not good for SEO purpose. A frame only confuses the Google crawler. Frames are considered to be outdated and not to be used in a website. Query Strings should also be avoided while coding to get a good SEO result.

Manage Code and Content- You should remove all the common code related to CSS and JS files to a single file .This will also help your code page to look neat and allow the important code and content of your page to be managed properly.

Check Flash Content - If you have links to your internal pages in Flash or JavaScript then please remove them or modify your pages in a way that it is HTML compliant. In fact new features like CSS streamlined video can be used instead of Flash .Flash pages have flash intro that involve sounds, movies and is much heavy. The Flash pages are converted to HTML pages and then indexed by search engines and the robots.txt file should be uploaded with a flash site to disallow the Flash pages to make a copy of pages in order to ensure that these pages are not seen as duplicate content.

File Sitemap.xml - You need to check your code for browser compatibility and proper navigation. Generally a hierarchical navigational system brings better result in a search engine. Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask all search engines support the sitemap.xml format and can automatically discover the sitemap. In the robot.txt you can point the search engines to the URL of your sitemap.

Robot File configuration - If you want only limited files and directories to be searched by the search engines you will need to place the robot.txt file to hide files or directories that you don’t wish the search engine spiders to find. The robot.txt file generator tools are designed to create the text for your file and you can add files to it.

Other than these you can use the Google Maps feature and have content local to your area

You need to validate your code before launching your website. You will have to check for valid code according to W3C standards and after validation the search engines will pass your code.

Next Generation SEO –Semantic Searches

There have been many assumptions made in regard of semantic searches. SEO on using RIA

Rich Internet Application (RIA ) have many advantages and limitations to their credit. RIA is heavy files and can show more information through the animations on a webpage and also make the web page look attractive. Java, Oracle, Flash all has RIA technologies available.

Historically a hybrid technology was used to display the Flash movie files that are given the extensions SWF (Shock Wave files). If your website was a completely flash based website, a dummy code for the HTML was used to get the pages interlinked and to extract the content of the flash pages.

Earlier Google did not index the SWF files and the ranking was not found for websites using SWF on Google. Yahoo and Google, did not spider Flash content, they could not read the compressed file and no information could be gained from the flash files and much of the text inside the SWF appeared as graphics to the search engines. If your home page was a flash page then you need to have off page factors like link popularity and link reputation to carry your website. Generally the search engines don’t get a keyword related to the page that was designed completely in flash.

With the changes in Search engines technology, rich internet applications friendly searches and indexing of the flash have been introduced. Yahoo Map is also a type of shock wave file. Google can read the text in a flash file and get the linking of the product present in the flash file on the search result. There are a few instances when the conversion of text from one form to other can result in duplication of your content and also result in a bad ranking.

Many commerce sites need their products to be displayed through their website and that can be best done by using a RIA, but as was the presumption that Flash files were not indexed and did not perform well on search engine, there has been hesitation in using Flash files. But now we have found that search engines spider the content in Flash and direct link can be provided to the search result page.

Limitations of using RIA in your web page is that ,when you have created a application where it goes to the database to retrieve information, this content won’t be indexed by Google. Google cannot crawl your web page using SWF. Also WebPages are not refreshed after loading as the indexing couldn’t differentiate between one page and another. This problem has been solved as most of the RIA technologies now allow for some form of URL changing and the technology within the application to respond to that URL. You can have the RIA files on your web page and get a good rank in search engine as well.

Google Dumps the Supplemental Results Label

If you have your website in supplement results, you will be worrying as Google has announced that it is dumping the supplement results label from its search engine. Supplement results shows the web pages that have lost their popularity or have some sort of duplicate content. Google considers pages in supplement results to be of low standard and less important to be shown in the search engine.

Removing the supplement result head will also prevent the supplement webpage get attention from viewers. Generally supplement results were not shown on the first page of Google Search results, in fact supplement were shown after normal results. Supplemental results are treated as second class results having no valuable information .There are many conditions when your web page may come under supplement results

According to the Google technical member Matt Cutts, he got many emails from internet users related to supplement pages based on supplement indexing issue. So the indexing was being sort out and finally the supplements results have been dropped. This has been an expected step from Google. This will allow Google to give, to the point results for a search and remove useless pages. This can worry those web site owners who have their pages under supplement results.

Google’s way of finding Pagelinks and PageRanks
